Tambi\u00e9n existe el pronombre-hueso <em>\u00abthat<\/em>\u00ab. Los usamos en cl\u00e1usulas relativas <em>(relative clauses)<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00bfQu\u00e9 son los pronombres relativos <em>(relative pronouns)<\/em>?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Los pronombres relativos<\/em> son un invitado habitual en todas las pruebas escolares posibles en el contexto de las llamados <a href=\"https:\/\/speakingo.com\/es\/relative-clauses-ingles\/\"><em>relative clauses<\/em><\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Se trata de palabras <em>who, whom, whose, what, which<\/em> (es decir, cinco palabras que empiezan por las <a href=\"https:\/\/speakingo.com\/es\/alfabeto-en-ingles-o-la-ciencia-de-la-ortografia\/\">letras<\/a> wh) y <em>that<\/em>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>La buena noticia es que el <em>that<\/em> normalmente lo podemos sustituir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Si utilizamos estas <em>palabras wh-<\/em> para hacer preguntas, se denominan pronombres interrogativos <em>(interrogative pronouns)<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone size-full wp-image-17242\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/speakingo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/wh-questions-words-pytania-szczeglowe-angielski-present-simple-past.jpg\" alt=\"\u00bfC\u00f3mo hacer preguntas &quot;wh- questions&quot; en present y past simple?\" class=\"wp-image-17242\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.speakingo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/wh-questions-words-pytania-szczeglowe-angielski-present-simple-past.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.speakingo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/wh-questions-words-pytania-szczeglowe-angielski-present-simple-past-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><figcaption><em>V\u00e9ase tambi\u00e9n: <a href=\"https:\/\/speakingo.com\/es\/wh-questions-words-preguntas-ingles\/\">\u00bfC\u00f3mo hacer preguntas wh- questions en present y past simple?<\/a><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Los <em> pronombres<\/em> relativos m\u00e1s comunes en ingl\u00e9s<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Los pronombres relativos <em>(relative pronouns)<\/em> m\u00e1s comunes en ingl\u00e9s:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>This is the girl <strong>who<\/strong> stole my heart.<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>(Esta es la chica <strong>que<\/strong> me rob\u00f3 el coraz\u00f3n).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>The guy, <strong>who<\/strong> is very tall, is very strange.<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>(Este tipo, que es muy alto, es muy extra\u00f1o).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Del mismo modo, el pronombre relativo <em>whom<\/em> (a quien ): <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>This is a girl <strong>whom<\/strong> I gave the flowers.<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>(Esta es la chica a la que le di las flores).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>He took out a photo of his wife, whom he adores.<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>(Sac\u00f3 una foto de su mujer, a la que tiene en gran estima).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">As\u00ed como el pronombre relativo <em>whose<\/em> significado es &#8216;cuyo&#8217;:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>This is the girl <strong>whose<\/strong> lips are rose red.<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>(Esa es la chica <strong>cuyos<\/strong> labios son rosados como una rosa).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>The boy, <strong>whose<\/strong> eyes shone like stars, went upstairs.<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>(El chico cuyos ojos brillaban como estrellas subi\u00f3 las escaleras).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Porotro lado, <strong>el pronombre relativo <em>which <\/em><\/strong>(que significa que) se utiliza para las cosas:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>This is the place <strong>which<\/strong> I love<\/em>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>(Este es el lugar <strong>que <\/strong>amo).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>The box, <strong>which<\/strong> was very old, had only a sentimental value.<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>(La caja, que era muy antigua, s\u00f3lo ten\u00eda valor sentimental).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>El pronombre relativo tambi\u00e9n puede ser <em>how<\/em> (&#8216;c\u00f3mo&#8217;)<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>Look <strong>how<\/strong> they treat their dog&#8230;<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>(Mira c\u00f3mo tratan a su <a href=\"https:\/\/speakingo.com\/es\/bulldog-ingles-comandos-para-perro\/\">perro<\/a>&#8230;).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>This is <strong>how<\/strong> it&#8217;s done!<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>(\u00a1As\u00ed se hace! \/ <strong>Whose<\/strong> lips are rose red?<\/em><\/li><li><em><strong>Which<\/strong> place do I love?<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone wp-image-8653 size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/speakingo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/\" alt=\"indefinite pronouns, pronombres indefinidos, somebody, someone, nobody, noone, anybody, anyone, everybody, everyone\" class=\"wp-image-8653\"\/><figcaption><em>Lea tambi\u00e9n:<a href=\"https:\/\/speakingo.com\/es\/pronombres-en-ingles-indefinidos-indefinite-pronouns-someone-somebody-anyone-anybody-noone-nobody-everyone-everybody-one\/\"> Que lo haga \u00abalguien\u00bb o pronombres indefinidos<\/a><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>That o which?<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Un tema muy debatido entre los ling\u00fcistas es la validez del uso de <em>that <\/em>y de<em> which<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Por un lado, se podr\u00eda decir <em>that <\/em>es un tipo de <em>comida r\u00e1pida<\/em>, y en un texto bonito se deber\u00eda usar m\u00e1s bien <em>which. <\/em>Normalmente, en los ex\u00e1menes se comprueba si el alumno puede utilizar el <em> pronombre<\/em> relativo correcto. As\u00ed que, al final algunos detalles para los curiosos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sin embargo, si queremos ser s\u00faper correctos los expertos en el tema tambi\u00e9n <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grammarly.com\/blog\/relative-pronouns\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">dicen<\/a> que:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. <strong><em>that<\/em><\/strong> debemos utilizar para <em>definir las cl\u00e1usulas (restrictivas),<\/em> es decir <em><a href=\"https:\/\/speakingo.com\/es\/relative-clauses-ingles\/\">relative clauses<\/a><\/em> que introducen informaci\u00f3n clave, y por eso no utilizamos una coma:<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>The book that was written by Mark Twain was interesting. <\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>(El libro que escribi\u00f3 Mark Twain era interesante).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En esta frase, sin la informaci\u00f3n del autor, no sabr\u00edamos de qu\u00e9 libro se trata, por lo que la consideramos informaci\u00f3n clave <em>(restrictive, defining)<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">(2) Mientras que en la siguiente frase utilizamos <strong><em>which <\/em><\/strong>porque la informaci\u00f3n es \u00abadicional <em>(non-defining, not restrictive)\u00bb:<\/em><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>John&#8217;s car, which had a flat tire, couldn&#8217;t continue the race.<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>(El coche de John, que ten\u00eda un neum\u00e1tico pinchado, no pudo continuar la carrera).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En esta frase, sabemos lo que ocurre porque s\u00f3lo hab\u00eda un coche de Juan, por lo que la informaci\u00f3n sobre el neum\u00e1tico deshinchado es colateral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Es decir, en <em>relative clauses<\/em>:<\/p><p>informaci\u00f3n adicional, con comas \u2192 <em>which<\/em><\/p><p>informaci\u00f3n clave, sin comas \u2192 <em>that<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Lea m\u00e1s sobre <em>defining and non-defining relative clauses<\/em> en el post sobre \u00aboraciones relativas\u00bb en ingl\u00e9s:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone is-resized wp-image-8938\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/speakingo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/relative-clauses.jpg\" alt=\"relative clauses\" class=\"wp-image-8938\" width=\"640\"\/><figcaption><em>Lea tambi\u00e9n: <a href=\"https:\/\/speakingo.com\/es\/relative-clauses-ingles\/\">Las cl\u00e1usulas relativas, de las que trata este texto, son muy importantes en ingl\u00e9s.<\/a><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Who<\/em> o <em>that<\/em>?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Tambi\u00e9n hay desacuerdo sobre el dilema entre el uso de <em>who<\/em> y de <em>that.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En general, aplicamos a las personas <em>who<\/em>. Por eso algunos profesores de ingl\u00e9s no te van dan un punto en el examen por aprobar:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>The lady that danced on the table had long hair.<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>(La se\u00f1ora que bailaba sobre la mesa ten\u00eda el pelo largo).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Se puede decir que se trata de una <em> defining relative clause<\/em> (v\u00e9ase m\u00e1s arriba), pero es m\u00e1s seguro -y, en mi opini\u00f3n, m\u00e1s agradable- decir:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>The lady who danced on the table had long hair.<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone wp-image-8944 size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/speakingo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/relative-clauses-who.jpg\" alt=\"relative clauses, who whom\" class=\"wp-image-8944\"\/><figcaption><em>\u00bfAlguien ha dicho que me parezco a un b\u00faho? \u00bfQui\u00e9n? \u00bfQui\u00e9n? (\u00a1as\u00ed que hoo-hoo!)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>who <\/em>o <em>whom<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Sin embargo, <a href=\"https:\/\/speakingo.com\/es\/errores-ingles-hablantes-nativos\/\">incluso los hablantes nativos<\/a> dicen a veces <em>who<\/em> en lugar de <em>whom<\/em>. No es necesariamente un error<sup>1<\/sup> &#8211; al menos no en el discurso.
