Significa \u00abdeber\u00eda\/deber\u00edas\/se deber\u00eda\u00bb. \u00bfCu\u00e1ndo utilizamos <em>\u00abshould\u00bb<\/em> y en qu\u00e9 se diferencia esta palabra de <em>must, ought <\/em>o <em>shall? <\/em>\u00bfY qu\u00e9 es el<em> subjuntivo?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><em>En la foto: \u00a1Deber\u00edas estar estudiando ahora mismo!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Empecemos con lo m\u00e1s b\u00e1sico para pasar a los matices m\u00e1s avanzados luego.<\/p>\n<h2>\u00bfQu\u00e9 significa <em>should<\/em>?<\/h2>\n<p><em>Should<\/em> significa que estar\u00eda bien hacer algo. En la pr\u00e1ctica, esto significa:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>despu\u00e9s de <em>should<\/em> el verbo siempre aparece en infinitivo (forma b\u00e1sica, de diccionario): <em>should go, should ignore, should pay<\/em><\/li>\n<li>no se conjuga <a href=\"\/es\/?p=13741\">en la tercera persona del singular del tiempo <\/a><em><a href=\"https:\/\/speakingo.com\/es\/present-simple-tiempo-presente-ingles\/\">present simple<\/a>: I should, you should, <strong>she<\/strong> should, <strong>he<\/strong> should.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\"><\/div>\n<h2>\u00bfEn qu\u00e9 otros casos utilizamos <em>should?<\/em><\/h2>\n<p>Aparte de expresar nuestras opiniones y consejos, vamos a utilizar <em>should<\/em> cuando algo no est\u00e1 bien, es diferente de lo que nos esper\u00e1bamos:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>So expensive? Deber\u00eda haber reservado una mesa ayer).<\/p>\n<h2><em>should &amp; ought to<\/em><\/h2>\n<p>Tranquilamente podr\u00edamos considerar que <em>should &amp; ought to<\/em> significan lo mismo.<\/p>\n<p><em>Ought to<\/em> es una forma un poco m\u00e1s antigua por lo que puede sonar m\u00e1s formal y es menos popular.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Do you think I ought to marry him?<\/em> = <em>Do you think I should marry him? <\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(\u00bfCrees que deber\u00eda casarme con \u00e9l?<em>)<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>You ought not to eat so much at night. = You shouldn&#8217;t eat so much at night.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(No debes comer en exceso por la noche).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>You ought to have come with us. = You should have come with us.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(Deber\u00edas haber venido con nosotros.)<\/p>\n<h2><em>had better &amp; should<\/em><\/h2>\n<p>Aqu\u00ed una expresi\u00f3n parecida en su significado ser\u00eda <em>had better.<\/em>Pero hay diferencias sutiles.<\/p>\n<p><em>Had better<\/em> se refiere a situaciones concretas y no a consejos generales.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>You should always wear a hat in winter.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(Siempre hay que llevar un sombrero en invierno).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>It&#8217;s freezing outside! Simplemente es m\u00e1s fuerte.<\/p>\n<p>Compara:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>You should apologise to her.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(Deber\u00edas disculparte con ella. &#8211; Te lo aconsejo como tu buen amigo ).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>You must apologise to her.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(Tienes que disculparte con ella &#8211; \u00a1Porque si no lo haces ser\u00e1 muy malo! \u00a1No tienes opci\u00f3n!)<\/p>\n<p>O:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>If he wants to have a girlfriend, he should change his behaviour. <\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(Si quiere una novia, deber\u00eda cambiar su comportamiento, que es penoso).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>If he wants to have a girlfriend, he must change his behaviour. <\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(Si quiere una novia, tiene que\/debe cambiar su comportamiento, que es tr\u00e1gico).<\/p>\n<h4>Recuerda que <em>must <\/em>describe una obligaci\u00f3n interna, no externa:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><em>It&#8217;s a good movie, you should see it. <\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(Es una buena <a href=\"https:\/\/speakingo.com\/es\/como-aprender-ingles-de-las-peliculas\/\">pel\u00edcula<\/a>, deber\u00edas verla).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>This book changed my life, you must read it! <\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(Este libro cambi\u00f3 mi vida, \u00a1tienes que\/debes leerlo!)<\/p>\n<p>En estas frases, no hay ning\u00fan polic\u00eda sobre nuestras cabezas orden\u00e1ndonos que nos entreguemos a los placeres de la cultura y el arte. Somos nosotros mismos los que \u00abtenemos que\u00bb o \u00abdebemos\u00bb hacer algo. Para hablar de una obligaci\u00f3n objetiva y externa, utilizamos m\u00e1s bien <em>have to<\/em> (esto es literalmente \u00abtener que\u00bb). La versi\u00f3n de <em>shall <\/em>es mucho m\u00e1s aristocr\u00e1tica, aunque hoy en d\u00eda pueda sonar un tanto graciosa).<\/p>\n<p>En la pr\u00e1ctica, hoy en d\u00eda vamos a utilizar <em>shall<\/em> s\u00f3lo en las propuestas corteses:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Shall we dance?
